The Ken Burton Show
I'm sure by now everyone in every far corner of the world has either played Modern Warfare 2, or had someone rant on at them about how 'epic' it is. I myself bought the game shortly after it was released - unsure whether it would really live up to the hype - and have been playing it ever since. During the first month or so of owning it, when I wasn't playing it i was watching videos of other people playing it on youtube. Usually of other people who were very, very good at the game doing things I could only dream of (literally, I was dreaming of playing it). So good that it begs the question of whether these players - more often then not male - have ever seen or had any contact at all with the opposite sex.
A lot of videos I watched were from the website www.Machinima.com. A websites that makes gameplay videos of the latest and greatest Video Games. Again most of these video were of stupidly good gamers, until i found Ken. Ken Burton is quite the opposite of the usual gamer, as in, he is awful, truly truly awful! After watching a couple of videos entitled 'The Ken Burton Show' (thekenburtonshow.com) the magnitude of his awfulness pleasantly surprised me. I was watching someone worse then me have far more fun then me! Which reminded me of what playing computer games should be, FUN! And not to be taken so seriously, like most people who plays games like Modern Warfare 2. The best thing about 'The Ken Burton Show' though, is that he shows no matter what skill level you are, you can still have fun at a game.
His videos usually have the same structure. Generally it's of him playing an online match of Modern Warfare 2, narrating it as he goes. Usually asking the watcher what he was doing wrong and why he kept dying. This is then interspersed with clips of him doing the voice of his character - these are by far the funniest parts. He has one main recurring character named Tristran. 'The Ken Burton Show Part 27' is of Tristran trying to find the killer of his "fag from University' 'Berty'.
Of Course even though he has many followers and fans, there are still plenty of people posting hate comments on his videos. Generally asking why he works for a games review website when he's rubbish, or why it's funny "Watching a middle aged man make stupid voices and do badly at a computer games". Which is quite a good question, but has an easy answer. Because it's a laugh! Simple as, it's definitely not to be taken seriously, like computer games. They shouldn't be taken seriously, they should be fun! FUN!!!!
If you're a fan of Modern Warfare 2, or if you've only played it once and were rubbish, or even if you've never played it because you thought it was sad. I suggest you watch at least one of his videos, and like me, you should be pleasantly surprised.
