THE PROMENADE
You easily get under the spell, there’s no doubt about that, so beware or surrender everything to the music of this, simply beautiful, band: The Promenade – a timeless three piece exploring the universal beauty and darkness of youth and its possibilities. Their simple shifts in shade and tone bring forward the lyrical depth and soothing poignancy of their songs, especially the tracks ‘Lady Hollywood’, ‘Sterling Swells’ and ‘Midnight Audrey’, together testify on such a unique diversity. This promising band, supported by the Joe Strummer Foundation for New Music (Strummerville), is one of a kind, original and experimental. Raised in St Albans, England now based in Brighton The Promenade’s front man Jack Ridley (lead vocals, guitar) and Remi Bumstead (drums) has known each other since the early school days, growing up and playing music together.
Throughout his teens, Jack worked purely as a solo artist gaining recognition in and around the St Albans area. Although Jack still works on solo projects, the desire to start a band was strong when he was a young boy, and has grown ever since. In late 2010 Jack and Remi, recruited William Day (bass guitar), and made everything official. Now studying at Art College and University in Brighton, you can catch them playing regularly in the area as well as in and around London. Solo or not, Brighton or London, whenever, wherever – what’s not to love about The Promenade? Everyone should listen to this.
